Application Technology Project - Review to support Windows 10 Desktop Delivery

by Kevin Hall

Background

A leading global insurer was investing in their end to end IT estate, to upgrade users to Windows 10, and required a full application review of over 300 applications globally. Many applications were no longer used or were duplicates.

Challenge

The large user number and extensive application estate required careful analysis, planning and review to ensure the business acceptance criteria were met, removing duplicate or old applications. In addition, a suitable test population also needed to be identified to pilot the rollout of applications to the new desktops, before full deployment.

Solution

ECMS deployed a specialist technical project team to review, remediate, test and deliver. The approach required a full application review to understand packaging requirements before packaging to the new desktop solutions. A key aspect was ensuring the business were able to test the proposed desktops and applications in a controlled approach before committing to a full rollout. Additionally, the domain forest data required remediation to ensure capacity for the strategic migration.

Outcome

ECMS successfully reviewed more than 300 applications, removing redundant and duplicate applications, allowing a more efficient desktop migration to Windows 10.
